Safe Control of Operations (SCO) Training and Assessment Courses
Who Should Attend
Employees requiring to be put onto the Safe Control of Operations (SCO) registration scheme in order to be deemed Competent Persons or Authorising Engineers for either Permits to Work, Forms of authority and, where appropriate, Routine and Non Routine Operations.
Prerequisites
To be technically competent persons and nominated by their Reviewing Manager.
For Authorising Engineers to be a person, having the ability, appropriate training, knowledge and experience, to authorise work to be undertaken in a safe and proper manner.
For Competent Person, having the ability, appropriate training, knowledge and experience to supervise and/or carry out work on site in a safe and proper manner.
All candidates must posses the appropriate skills to perform their role; this includes suitable reading and writing abilities.
Aims
To ensure all personnel who work on the UK gas infrastructure are aware of the procedural requirements and their responsibilities under the Safe Control of Operation Permitry System.
Objectives
The SCO training consists of five courses, each course specifically tailored to meet individual operational competence requirements.
The courses being:
| Module 1: SCO Core | Competent Persons (ROs/Team Leaders) |
| Module 2: Permit to Work (PtW) CP/AE | Competent Persons (ROs/Team Leaders) |
| Module 3: Non-Routine Operations (NRO) | Authorising Engineers and Competent Persons (NROs supervisory level) |
| Module 4: Routine Operations (RO) | Authorising Engineers and Competent Persons (ROs)
|
| Module 5: Form of Authority (FoA) | Authorising Engineers and Competent Persons |
Important Note:
Successful completion of any of the above SCO training courses DOES NOT infer competence sufficient to carry out any particular role.
The Employer’s Responsible Engineer(s) must ensure a person’s role (e.g. Authorising Engineer) and work type (e.g. Network >2bar -7bar) is correctly identified and communicated to EU Skills for registration on the SCO database.
For example a person may have a role as an Authorising Engineer for PtW/FOA and ROs but limited to Competent person for NROs, in which case he/she would be expected to complete SCO1 and 2 AEs and CPs plus SCO4 and 5 AEs and CPs
Duration
1- 4 Days (depending on units being completed)
