Safe Control of Operations (SCO) Renewal
Who Should Attend
All gas industry personnel involved in operational works on the Gas Networks and certain types of Meter Installations who have SCO Accreditation and wish to renew this:
- Named Authorising Engineers or
- Named Competent Persons
The introduction of IGEM/GL/6 Edition 3 has introduced an increased emphasis on risk-based management of gas safety systems and gives gas distribution companies the flexibility to develop their own gas safety procedures based on meeting the common requirements of GL/6. The SCO scheme is based around the requirements for meeting GL/6 compliance.
Prerequisites
Must already hold SCO accreditation
Candidates MUST hold an in-date SCO accreditation that hasn’t lapsed. If it has lapsed, they would require to undertake the Initial programme again.
All candidates must possess the appropriate skills to perform their role; this includes suitable reading and writing abilities.
Aims
To ensure all personnel who work on the UK gas infrastructure are aware of the procedural requirements and their responsibilities under the Safe Control of Operation Permitry System.
Objectives
The SCO training consists of 5 units, each unit specifically tailored to meet individual operational competence requirements. The units being:
- Module 1: SCO Core
- Module 2: Permit to Work (PtW)
- Module 3: Non-Routine Operations (NRO)
- Module 4: Routine Operations (RO)
- Module 5: Form of Authority (FoA)
SCO Core is a pre-requisite for anyone wishing to renew any other registration categories.
Permit to Work is a pre-requisite for anyone wishing to renew either/both Non-Routine and Routine Operations.
Candidate can renew units individually or as a suite of renewals depending on their current accreditation
Important Note:
Successful completion of any of the above SCO training courses DOES NOT infer competence sufficient to carry out any particular role.
The Employer’s Responsible Engineer(s) must ensure a person’s role (e.g. Authorising Engineer) and work type (e.g. Network >2bar -7bar) is correctly identified and communicated to EU Skills for registration on the SCO database.
An individual may undertake as many of the modules as required for their specific job role. The employing organisation’s Responsible Engineers decides the individual role (e.g. Authorising Engineer or Competent Person) and work type (e.g. Network >2bar -7bar). For example, an individual may have a role as an Authorising Engineer for Permits to Work and Routine Operations but limited to Competent Person for Non-Routine Operations, in which case they would be expected to complete module 1: SCO Core, module 2: PtW, module 3: NRO and module 4: RO
Duration
1- 2 Days (depending on units being completed)
